Ghost Ogre and Snow Rabbit Vs Continuous Traps
Today, we're looking at a card that's pretty great no matter where you put it. It's a Psychic, it's a Tuner, it's a monster with an effect playable from your hand or field, it's Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit!
Monster Cards with effects that activate from the hand have been a staple of Dueling for years now. Catching your opponent off guard with things like Maxx "C", Effect Veiler, and Gorz the Emissary of Darkness put your opponent into a compromising position after they've made some kind of commitment to the field. Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit plays in a similar manner, but in a way other hand traps haven't been able to do – it actually destroys your opponent's cards!
Whenever your opponent activates one of their monsters' effects, or activates the effect of one of their already face-up Spell or Trap Cards, you can activate Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. You'll send it from either your hand or face-up on the field to the Graveyard, and your opponent's card will be destroyed! That's literally any monster that used its effect, or any face-up Spell or Trap Card, and you destroy it. The only limitation is that you may only use one Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit effect per turn.
There's really no limit to the versatility of this card. A variety of simple removal effects like Soul Taker or Twister are always going in and out of style, because of the shifting landscape of the game. With Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, you're combining those cards into one. You'll often use it to destroy your opponent's biggest, most threatening monster, so you can use it to destroy a Nekroz of Trishula or Judgment Dragon before they can actually attack you. Besides just preventing damage from big monsters, Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit can interrupt Xyz plays with Tour Guide From the Underworld, Synchro moves with cards like Debris Dragon, or even Pendulum Summon set-ups made from cards like Qliphort Scout.
Be sure to note that Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit doesn't actually negate anything – Despite being destroyed, your opponent's monsters will still get to resolve their effects, though likely not with quite the same impact they expected. The big difference here is when Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit is used on face-up Spell and Trap Cards. That's when you might get to actually stop their effects! Since Field, Equip, Pendulum, and Continuous Spell/Trap Cards must remain face-up on the field to resolve their effects successfully, responding with Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy them will prevent that effect from happening.
So you've got a card that can go from your hand or field to destroy just about anything that activates. What more could you want? Well Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit is also a Level 3 Tuner! Much like Effect Veiler, if you find you don't need its effect, you can use it to move on to bigger and better monsters. Unlike Effect Veiler, however, Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit also has a solid 1800 DEF and is a Psychic-Type monster! Since Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit can be sent from the hand or field, it's actually viable to Set it in Defense Position and use its effect later in the Duel. Finally, as a Psychic-type you'll find a plethora of Psychic cards that can take even more advantage of Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, like searching it out with Serene Psychic Witch, reusing it with Silent Psychic Wizard, and most importantly, Special Summoning it straight from the Deck anytime with Emergency Teleport!
Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit can do so much in such a simple way. It's able to destroy anything that activates in its presence, has great DEF and a great Type, and is even a Tuner! This awesome card is going to be in Crossed Souls, and you can get your own at the Sneak Peeks on May 9th and 10th!
